Doctor of Jurisprudence
Advocacy is central to both law and social work professions. Education in both fields provides skills to serve vulnerable populations and combat injustice. This joint program prepares students to address complex social and legal challenges.
The law curriculum includes first- and second-year required courses and professional responsibility. Students spend their second year in the School of Social Work. They complete the core MSW curriculum during that year.
Students complete a concentration in social work during years two through four. This includes a required practicum or internship experience. These placements provide hands-on professional training.
Students must also complete a research paper addressing both law and social work. The paper meets the law school’s advanced writing requirement. This work integrates knowledge across both disciplines.

Applicants must follow admissions requirements, application guidelines, and timelines for each program. Applicants must apply and be accepted into both programs separately. Admission to one program does not guarantee admission to the other.
If accepted into both programs, advisors from each program meet with the student. They develop a coordinated plan of study. This plan ensures progress across both programs.
